You can’t tie Boston Police Cadets in knots

But they are pretty good at tying a few knots of their own, especially of the knot garden variety.

The cadets have started work on a new knot garden for St. Botolph’s Church (The Stump), regenerating an area of land alongside the river and near the vicarage.

The area, mainly laid to lawn, previously had two small privet hedges, lending themselves to anti-social behaviour.

Following discussion between the Rev Alyson Buxton, Team Rector at St Botolph’s, and Inspector Andy Morrice, of Boston Police, it was agreed that the hedges would be removed and the Police Cadets could design and create a new knot garden for this year’s Boston in Bloom effort.

Under the supervision of Peter Hunn, Community Safety Manager (Boston Borough Council and East Lindsey District Council), the Police Cadets have marked out the garden design and worked hard to remove the tough top layer of turf and soil. Police Cadet Stephen helped with the initial measuring and marking and later joined fellow Cadets, Aaron, James, James, Beth and Téa for the first dig.

Mint Supermarket, of Boston Shopping Park, Horncastle Road kindly donated £150 towards the completion of the knot garden. The funds will pay for 150 box hedges, supplied by Johnsons Garden Centre, Wainfleet Road, and contribute towards slate/stones.

This new garden complements the knot garden created by South Lincolnshire Horticultural Society which is now reaching maturity after several years of growth.

The Police Cadets’ design is currently under wraps with planting planned for July. We will continue to follow the Cadets as they complete their garden.
