The Big Boston Clean-up this spring will be by royal appointment.
The Right Royal Big Boston Clean-up 2016 will support a national tidy campaign, Clean For The Queen. And you can nominate local right royal eyesores that you’d like to see cleaned up.
Boston’s clean-up will take place over four days, from Monday, April 4, to Thursday, April 7, and will incorporate the nationwide campaign to clear up Britain in time for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday, which will be officially celebrated in June.
When she came to the throne litter was not the problem that it is today. Food packaging, plastic bottles, takeaway meals and cigarette butts have all contributed to a growing menace that affects our wildlife, streets, countryside and sense of pride.
The campaign calls on individuals, volunteer groups, local councils, businesses and schools to do their bit.
Volunteers are now being recruited for the ninth annual Big Boston Clean-up to do the right thing for Boston, Queen and country.
There will be opportunities for teams of neighbours, friends and relatives to work together, helping clean up their own areas.

Jen also wants to hear of any “right royal grot spots” that you think need particular clean-up attention.
She said: “The Queen has devoted her entire life to the nation, so I am hoping we can all make an extra special effort for her 90th birthday celebrations to ensure the town looks as clean and tidy as it possibly can.
“The Big Boston Clean-up has proved a successful community event over the past eight years, and this ninth year will be extra special because of the royal emphasis. It is as much a fun social event as it is a really good community effort to clean up the town. We are always pleased to welcome new faces, and so grateful to all who take part.
“We start at 9am and finish at 3pm each day, but volunteers can do as little or as much as they want to. There’s a coffee break and a free lunch provided each day.”
She said volunteers needed to wear clothing appropriate to anticipated weather conditions and stout footwear. Everything else – high-visibility vests, litter pickers, sacks and gloves are provided.
Over the past eight years 4,730 volunteers have got involved, lifting almost 76 tonnes of rubbish from the streets and waterways of the town.
The clean-up starts each day at 9am at Municipal Buildings.
A separate Big Schools Clean-up is also organised before they break up for Easter. For the past four years 1,598 primary school children have taken part, clearing litter from in and around their school grounds. If your school has not so far signed up and wants to be involved, contact Jen.
